We know that the Christian Church has been in this area since the early fourth century, in Roman times. Lastingham was founded as a monastery in the mid seventh century. Rosedale Church is on the site of a medieval priory.

Our churches stand as signs of the beauty and generosity of God, in whose Name we are welcomed.

This is a time of rapid cultural change. Many are feeling a loss of eternal values and spiritual certainties. In Western Europe the spirit of the age does not favour ‘church’ Christianity. However, a service is held in each of our five churches on most Sundays and main Festivals, and there are regular weekday services throughout the year.   In this way the ‘lamp of prayer’ is kept alight.  In the five villages, between 40 and 100 people attend our churches each week.

The Parish Priest for the Lastingham Group of Churches is:
       The Revd Alastair Ferguson SSC
       The Vicarage, Lastingham,
       York, YO62 6TN
       Telephone: 01751 417344         vicarage@lastinghamchurch.org.uk.
