The Christian Year
The progression of the Church’s seasons, with their changing moods from sorrow to joy, lead us through the Christian st

Church Services
The Eucharist recalls the death and resurrection of Christ.  Its roots are pre-Christian and universal, and its rudiments can be traced back to the liturgy of the First Temple as it was celebrated from c.950 - c.625 bc.

The main service each week is the Sunday Eucharist, held in each village in rotation on a four-week cycle, either at 9am or 10.30am.

The 8 o’clock Holy Communion is another form of the Eucharist. Based on the order in the Book of Common Prayer of 1662, it is a service that is quiet and traditional.

A monthly Anglican Eucharist is held at Hartoft Methodist Chapel (from December till March it may be at a private house).

Morning and Evening Prayer are part of the Church’s regular cycle of prayer.  Evening Prayer, or Evensong,  is held at one of the churches each Sunday.  Both are held during the week, as advertised.

Some like to follow the 9am or 10.30 Eucharist through the villages, or the 8 o’clock.  Others attend the service at their own village – even though the service and the time is different each week.

Weekday services can be an alternative to Sundays, or an addition. The Wednesday Eucharist in Lastingham Crypt is popular. For a children’s service, some  find a Friday at Rosedale more convenient.
